Draft of website layout

Document created by: Jake Hashdi

This document is useful as it creates an outline of what we desire the website to look like, which speeds up production of the website overall, as we already have a plan to operate from. This also allows us to think over aspects to the site and tweek any we do not like.

Reverse Storyboard

 Document created by: Zac Bowen

This is an example of a reverse storyboard for an existing show (Misfits). This document was ultimately helpful towards the creation of our own storyboard, which subsequently helped in the creation of our TV segment.

Audience feedback on products

This survey was created by Zac

This survey was useful to us as it allowed us to receive feedback from an audience and determine what we carried out successfully and what we did unsuccessfully  This was ultimately useful as it allowed us to carry out a more detailed evaluation.

Storyboard

The purpose of the Storyboard is to create an outline of what the product is intended to look like. The storyboard must also contain details such as the length of the shot, shot type and a description of the sound within the scene. This document makes filming a lot easier, as a shot can be set up much quicker, as there is an outline and instructions to what needs to be within the shot.

Intentions

From the research that I have conducted, I have established that the target audience for my show is males aged 18-29. I have gathered this information firstly from primary and secondary research conducted by myself and my group, which saw that males aged 18-29 made up the largest percentage of viewers of programmes that are of the same genre as ours (science fiction/fantasy drama). Furthermore, when analysing products that are similar to ours such as the programme Misfits, and its corresponding website, this audience can also be identified. This is due to the clear steps taken to appeal to this audience, for example, the cast of misfits is predominantly male. This is appealing for this age group as it offers a large amount of characters that are easy to relate to and as such appealing to the audience. Additionally there are also female of members of the cast, who attract this audience with sex appeal.

I intend to create a programme that is of the highest quality that I can produce. I intend to accomplish this by making sure that I have a thorough understanding of the use of all the equipment that I require to use. Furthermore I intend to complete all parts production to my highest ability. I intend to create this programme for males aged 18-29 as the secondary target audience this has been identified by Nathans secondary audience research[1]. I intend to do this by utilizing a genre that proves popular amongst this demographic (science fiction/fantasy). I intend to target those in the C2 grade of NRS social class, as the gritty and harsh tone of my show will somewhat be relatable to this group of people, as they are more likely to have experienced real life struggles than those above this class (even though the struggles are not like they are in my program, the fact that the characters are experiencing hardships is what will enable the audience to realte to them) in my research I found that E4 commissioned misfits as they wanted a show that was more working class, so in choosing this social demographic to appeal to, I can somewhat fit into the context of my broadcaster. Furthermore, I intend to make use of characters in such a fashion that has proved successful with shows of this genre (e.g. Misfits as previously stated). Whilst my show is heavy in science fiction and fantasy elements, I intend to incorporate real life issues into the program. I intend do so as it has proved popular with other TV shows. For example whilst Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a show that was very heavy in fantasy elements, it touched aspects that are easy to relate to. For example,  the death of a parent, which proved massively successful  I intend to incorporate elements such as this to give my programme a realistic tone that proves popular amongst audiences. Finally I intend to create a programme that follows the conventions of the chosen genre that I have identified through research. I intend to carefully apply conventions, whilst still attempting to maintain originality in my programs content.

The research I conducted for the production of my website found a number of things to consider when making my website. For example I found that a number of websites for E4 shows (misfits, dead set, beaver falls, Skins) make a large use of background’s and central images, that often somehow relate into the theme of the show. Furthermore, websites seem to be made fairly simplistic to allow navigation of the site with ease, whilst allowing the viewer to feel more connected with the chosen show as they are indeed exploring content beyond the show itself.

I intend to create my website by following all the identified conventions from my research. I intend to make my website as appealing to the target audience as possible, by incorporating identified conventions, but maintain simplicity. As I have observed from websites such as the website for The Walking dead, a simple website fits the tone of the programme, and functions easily. I will indeed also try to create a simple website as I wish to convey a similar message as this show given that it is the same genre as my show. However in addition I will make my website appeal to my target audience (males aged 18-29) as much as is possible. I will do this using images that are appealing, colours that are typically appealing to the chosen demographic, and a simple layout for easy use, and maintained interest. Furthermore, I intend to produce a website of the highest possible quality, which I intend to accomplish by making sure I am acquainted well with the features of the word press site, which I will use to create my website. I intend to create 3 pages for my website. Firstly I will create a home page, to serve as an introductory page and a ‘hub’ for my website, which is indeed typical of all modern websites. Secondly, I intend to create an about page on my website. I will do this as, due to the dramatic nature of my programme, and about page will successfully increase interest in the programme (and subsequently the website also), as it will entice the audience by giving a synopsis of the programme, without giving too little too much away to remove interest. Finally I will have a page dedicated to small biographies about the characters of my show. I intend to have this, as I have observed that many other websites offer this, and character’s indeed play an important role in drama, so in having a page dedicated to short biographies on them, it immerses the audience more so.

Script

The script is a key tool in creating the narrative of the show. The script is used to show the actors within a production what the writer envisioned when writing the show. The script instructs the actors what to say and how to behave, all of which greatly affect the final product immensely. The script is the main tool for constructing the narrative of a programme.

Shot list

The shot list acts as a 'checklist' for shots within a segment. It allowed us to make sure that we had successfully filmed all of the required shots. This proved useful as it meant we did forget to films any shots, and produced our segment, how we intended it.

Call sheet

The call sheet's purpose is to inform cast and crew of the filming location, and other requirements of the production, such as refreshments, and nearest hospital. This was useful as in providing all members of cast and crew with a call sheet, all were informed of essential information, such as the call time, ensuring that everyone was there on time.

Website layout diagram

The background image will be a repeated tile image of a garage door. Similar to what the E4 Misfits website.

The header image will be a screen grab from the programme an also thumbnail for YouTube video

These will be links to the social networking sites for our programme, they will be hyperlinked

This diagram was helpful to the production of the website, as it gave us somewhat of a guideline to follow when producing the website. This was achieved as it was constructed when viewing other existing websites, so in creating the diagram we were able to create a brief summary of what we intended to create for each page of the website. This acted much like the storyboard did for the segment.

Font tests for website

These would be appropriate fonts for our website as they have somewhat of a connotation of distress (due to the weathered look that is present throughout them), which is indeed a key theme within our programme. \furthermore, some of the fonts have a denotative appearance of being mismatched  as if they where assembled in a state of urgency. As well as connoting danger and excitement in our programme, any of these fonts would suit our programme, as they comply with the themes of our porgramme

Website photography schedule

We did not require a schedule for our website as the images that we used for our website were stills taken from the video that we produced
